Snorkeling On Kauai

The Island of Kauai is the oldest in northern most island in the Hawaiian island chain. It is about a 20 minute airplane ride from the main island and Honolulu. The island is much smaller than the main island, encompassing only 550 square miles, but it has wonderful beaches and makes for great snorkeling and scuba diving.

The best snorkeling on Kauai can be found along the southern shores of the island because here the waters are calmer. Here, the Pacific Ocean is crystal clear with visibility averaging 50 feet or more with plenty of sea life and underwater plants. Snorkeling here is definitely a treat.

From beginners to experts alike, Kauai has plenty of locations to try snorkeling. Since the water is so calm and clear even kids and children can try snorkeling. The waters here are even clearer and warmer than what you might find in Florida or the Caribbean. In fact, many people plan their entire vacations to take snorkeling tour's of the island. All you need is a mask, and some other snorkeling gear, and you're all set. Some people also visit Maui and Oahu to do some snorkeling there.

Beginners usually start snorkeling on Anini Beach since it has a safe, shallow area to start swimming in. This spectacular spot to find abundant sea life is Salt Pond Beach Park which is near Hanapepe, in a protected cove. Another popular spot Poipu Beach Park which is located on the right side of Nukumoi Point.
